Dirax-HDD shrink sleeve coating-features

Dirax shrink sleeve

Dirax sleeve is a wraparound heat-shrinkable reinforcement with fiberglass properties. where reinforcement gives the backing greater wear and penetration resistance. Dirax sleeve is designing a way to protects girth welds against corrosion and physical damages and gives maximum joint protection of the welding joint and pipe.

Dirax is for fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) and polyethylene (PE)  where fusion bonded epoxy is used as a primer that is three in a layer which increases the resistance to friction and abrasion.

Epoxy powder sprayed on to pipe at a temperature around 210 to 340-degree centigrade or as per manufacturing instructions that are reaching the hot pipe surface, the epoxy powder melt and create a uniform layer of epoxy coating on the pipe.

Triple-layer and power create Dirax coated pipe is used in directional drilling applications. Dirax sleeve coating looking for truly extreme pipeline critical condition like directional drilling, and thrust boring applications as like underground road crossing, underground river crossing, underground channel crossing, and much more, because of their chemical and mechanical properties is very high, like greater wear & tear resistance, and also very high penetration resistance.

An additional component is also used for wear cone is extra protection against pull through force of the same construction as the main sleeve shrink.

Dirax is a multilayer shrink sleeve hidden with two components system, a shrink sleeve, and two S1301M epoxies. There are multiples layers in dirax sleeve.

coating, and their types.

There are four types of Dirax sleeve layer.

1. Polyolefin backing.
2. Polypropylene mesh.
3. Polyolefin.

4. Adhesive Material.

1.Polyolefin backing:-

Polyolefin backing is liquid epoxy, solvent-free two-component. this improves the molecular structure. the polyolefin will work as part of the heat-shrinkable sleeve and provides the required level of mechanical protection and perform like a tough, heat resistant, elastic material. It is a heat-shrinkable element that means, heat them up and they shrink, or more correctly, they recover in length.

2. Polypropylene mesh:-

It is a tough, rigid, and crystalline thermoplastic produced from propene monomer. It is a linear resin It is also known as polypropene. Polypropylene properties similar to polyethylene, but it is slightly harder tough, and more heat resistant.it is a mechanically rugged material and high chemical and creep load resistance. There are three general types of polypropylene as a homopolymer, random copolymer, and block copolymer.

3. Polyolefin:-

Polyolefin is actually a class of synthetics resins (plastic) prepared by the polymerization of olefins. It is a hydrocarbon containing hydrogen and carbon whose molecules contain a pair of carbon atoms linked together by a double bond. Common polyolefins are polypropylene and polyethylene. These polymers are prevalent in a wide array of applications it is depending on the properties of the polymer. It has various properties like impact resistance, material fatigue, resistance to degradation.

4. Adhesive:-

Adhesive applied to the metal by various manufacture's techniques depending on the type of viscosity and pipeline operating temperature, environment, conditions, or their design. An adhesive has many functions, it adheres to the install sleeve to the steel at the coating. It resists shear forces imparted by shear soil pressure.

The adhesive choice depends on the pipe size and corrosion protection properties. The adhesive needs to be chosen based on its corrosion protection properties, adhesion strength, and resistance to shear forces imparted by pipe movement and effort of the soil pressure.

Features of Dirax sleeve and why it is used in directional drilling and thrust boring.

(I)  Dirax is coated with a dual laser. It is used on the pipe that will be involved in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and thrust boring.

(II) Highly resistant to shear and peel forces reduced by the soil and thermal movement.

(III) Dirax withstands wear, abrasion, and wear resistance at a pull-through comparable to direct coating.

(IV) Low preheat requirement.

(V)Superior cathodic disbandment and hot water immersion resistance.

(VI)Wear cone protect loading edge of the sleeve against pull-through forces.

(VII) Sleeve applied overweight epoxy so there is no curing and waiting time and also no much time to make a mechanical and chemical bonding.

(VIII) Dirax sleeve will withstand external forces, external soil stress, significant abrasion, and penetration force.

(IX) Indirect sleeve use an epoxy sleeve, wear a cone, leader strip, leading strip, fiberglass sleeve or thrust bore kits that have very high mechanical and chemical properties that are required in directional drilling and thrust boring coating sleeve.

Benefits of Dirax sleeve:-

*The Dirax sleeve is tough to resist abrasion and gouging.

*Highly resistant to shear and peel forces during pipeline construction or in services.

*It provides a monolithic coating system.

*It provides additional security and strength.

*It increases reliability.

*It gives high performance and saves time.

*It offers the maximum barrier protection against corrosion.

*Pre-attached closer patch.

*It allows fast and easy application.

*It makes faster installation and saves time.

Standard Coating Code:-

* Bursting strength as per DIN 30672.

* Peel to steel as per ASTM D-1000, EN 12068.

* Specific coating resistance  DIN 30672.

* Impact resistance ASTM G 17.

* Cathodic disbondment ASYM G, EN 12068.

* Softening point ASTM E-28.

* lap shear ASTM D 1002, EN 12068.
